Today I'm very honored to open the Julia sweater pattern tour for women and teens! I'm becoming a regular pattern tester for Compagnie M, this is already my 3rd time. Definitely not getting bored of it, on the contrary, every time is different. This time Marte created a facebook group for all the testers to interact, very inspiring and fun to get to know some testers better!
Back to the Julia sweater, I've made one before for my daughter so I could already do it by heart without the instructions, it's a really quick and easy project. I went for the version with the split front and back in size 34.
The middle part is made of a very stretchy knit with a retro touch, bought at bambiblauw. The sleeves are a nice quality jersey fabric from the fragile stock sale. For the waistband, cuffs and neckline I changed the length to 90% of the circumference of the hem, because of a knit with very little stretch. The waistband and cuffs fitted perfectly, but the neckline was better at 80% as it is in the pattern. Marte adjusted the waistband to 90% in the final pattern. Now my Julia fits perfectly and is very comfy to wear!
To add an extra asymmetrical detail I made a bow on the left shoulder and I'll show you exactly how in a photo tutorial. You'll need to make the split version of the Julia to integrate the bow in the seams between the sleeves and neckline. Also I made this bow with a stretchy fabric.
First measure the shoulder seam with seam allowance, it will depend on your size and type of neckline you choose.
Cut 2 rectangles: the large one is the length of the shoulder seam and the width is the length + 2 cm seam allowance. The small rectangle is the middle part of the bow and measures 7 x 10 cm.
Fold the rectangles in two so the large one maintains the length of the shoulder seem and the small one becomes 3,5 x 10 cm.
Stitch at 1 cm
Turn inside out
Fold the small rectangle in two
Turn the seam inside
If you use a stretchy fabric you can easily slide the small round over the large one
First stitch the shoulder seam between the front and the back. Align the bow with the shoulder seam and baste the bow at 0,5 cm. Then stitch the sleeves and neckline together with the bow as explained in the instructions of the Julia. Hope you'll love your Julia with bow as much as I do!
